Walters Match Report - Marbella La Quinta Golf & Country Club

Preface:

La Quinta Golf & Country Club is certainly one of the better known golf clubs on the Costa del Sol. It is a 27 hole golf course, divided into three 9-hole courses. Each course has it’s specific features and a beautiful 18-holes combining 2 of the 3 courses which makes La Quinta Golf Club even more exciting. The course A, San Pedro, is characterized by wide fairways, it is medium length and the greens are not too difficult. The course B, Ronda, is the shortest of the three courses, but you expect narrow fairways and greens which sometimes make you wish you were back on course. The course C, Guadaiza, is currently being rebuilt and could therefore not be played. The management allowed us however, very kindly, a glimpse of the new site and I look forward to seeing the reopening in October, 2010. But now an exciting round on A and B

Par 5Men's 466 Meters
Handicap 5Ladies 406 Meters

Course A - Hole 1

This is quite open, a par five, 466 meters, slight dogleg right. Hit your ball into the middle of the fairway, because a long fairway bunker is waiting for you on the right, and if you go too far to the left you have to negotiate with a really big tree. My tee shot is more than satisfactory, of course, always from my point of view. 210 meters and a little left, therefore, the knowledge of the tree. My second shot is also good with a 4 iron, 160 meters further into the middle of the fairway. It is close to another tree ( it is the only one on the fairway), and most player should use this as a target line for their second shots. From here it's no more than 80 meters to the flag, just the job for a wedge. My ball lands five meters to the right of the hole. Birdie - chance. I miss the putt, but get my par. What a start! Me getting a par at the first hole, that’s unheard of.
